Projection SEAS was a multimedia youth project organised by a local charity called Project MotorHouse, funded by the National Lottery. Mooch was invited on the team in order to deliver a series of co-created hoardings that was installed down Ramsgate Seafront.
Students from the Royal Harbour Academy took part in the project, starting with students selecting their favorite images from the South East Archive of Seaside (SEAS) photography and then using those as inspiration for their own photographs of the area. Mooch took the students to visit businesses in the area and spoke to the locals, so that the students were introduced to the commercial culture in the harbour that they may not of been aware of previously.
The students created bodies of work that included photography, stories, soundtracks and collages, and exhibited them around the area, including one exhibition that was in the Turner Gallery, Margate. Project SEAS ended with each student creating a piece of public art. Taking the students body of work, Beach huts were designed to reflect each students “Dream beach hut, that features each individuals personal interests and creative work, creating a long line up of colourful hoardings, which was then presented to the public by trustee Brenda Blethyn in April 2016.
This project bought about lots of fantastic connections for the students, including working with some of Kent’s best creative practitioners including Mark McEvoy, Rachel Wilberforce, Dan Whitehead and Jules Bigg.
“I really enjoyed this project -was great fun! I got to do lots of things that I could not normally do and it has inspired me to take lots more photographs.”
Mooch very much enjoyed being part of this wonderful project.
