Happy International Day of Light!

Happy International Day of Light!  @idl2020
Mooch should have been hosting a public event in #Ramsgate today, the 16th May, which is the day we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. Of course, the global Covid 19 pandemic has changed many plans for the IDL community, for whom this is usually a different kind of global event, one of celebration and innovation.

Our IDL event, entitled “The Light Beneath the Waves”, is a project that merges History, Art and Science. It is a collaboration with the Applied Optics Group at the University of Kent @AOGKent and Project Motorhouse @pmhisolate which explores the lighting element of the proposed new version of the temporary 2016 public art installation in Ramsgate, PERFUGIUM MISERIS. The Uni. outreach project will engage local schoolchildren and residents in exploring the science of light via this iconic artwork. We aim to schedule our event for later this year but for now check out the Uni.’s podcast about our wonderful  #PerfugiumMiseris collaboration.
